Join us on this sun–soaked holiday discovering a little taste of romantic southern Italy on the Amalfi Coast.
You’ll be staying in the lovely town of Maiori with its kilometre–long, sand–and–shingle beach, located just south of the Sorrentine peninsula, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Along the seafront and in the town is a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, and there is a wide variety of watersports on offer from the beach. Maiori was once a great maritime power, and links to its medieval heyday still remain in the original 9th–century fortification of Castello di San Nicola de Thoro Plano (re–built in the 16th century) and the nearby Santa Maria de Olearia monastery which has some elaborate medieval frescoes.
The Italian ‘big 3’ towns of Amalfi, Positano and Ravello are all within a 30–minute bus ride, and Sorrento is nearby too, so you can set out on your own adventure or join one of our optional excursions

Herculaneum & Sorrento – Tuesday full day £49pp
This fabulous full–day tour combines a drive along the Amalfi coast (one of the world’s most picturesque routes) with a visit to the Roman excavations at Herculaneum and time in Sorrento. We set off in the morning and drive first to Herculaneum, a residential town buried in ashes by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, and still being excavated today. Then we head for Sorrento where you can find a nice place for lunch and still have time to explore the ancient, narrow lanes of the old town and see some of Sorrento’s most famous architectural gems, including the 14th–century Cloister of San Francesco. A visit to an inlaid wood–work shop is also included, a craft typical of the Sorrento area. On leaving Sorrento the drive back to Maiori takes you along the Amalfi coastline through cliff–side villages, with a photo–stop at the famous Belvedere in Positano for breathtaking views over the coastline and sea. The excursion arrives back in Maiori in the late afternoon.
Cruise to Positano – Thursday half day £45pp
On this sightseeing excursion you can see the Amalfi coastline from a different perspective – from the sea! Join the cruise at 2pm from Maiori pier, then the first port of call along the coast is the Emerald Grotto, where you take an optional look inside at the beautiful rock formations, weather permitting*. The cruise then continues along the coast, passing Conca dei Marini, an enchanting little town with cottages on the beach and clinging to the cliffs, then on to the Furore Fjord, a narrow gorge cutting inland from the sea, where the captain will show his skill as he manoeuvres the vessel in and out of the fjord. On the final part of the journey you will pass the privately–owned Li Galla island (most famous owner, Rudolf Nureyev) before disembarking in Positano. You will have about 1 ½ hours’ free time to explore Positano before making the return journey to Maiori, arriving back at the pier at about 6pm.*Extra charge to visit the Emerald Grotto – €5 per person. The visit involves a transfer to a smaller boat.
